Dr. Ernest “Chappie” Conrad III is a Professor and Director of Orthopaedic Oncology in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Dr. Conrad founded the Adult and Pediatric Sarcoma Clinics at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital in 1986/87. He also founded the Northwest Sarcoma Foundation during his tenure as the Director of the Sarcoma Service at the University of Washington, in addition to serving as a Professor and Vice-Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Washington Medical Center and Director of Pediatric Orthopaedics at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Conrad’s research projects include multiple clinical studies in pediatric and adult tumors with special interest in pediatric limb-sparing procedures, benign pediatric tumors, soft-tissue sarcomas in adults and the role of PET scan imaging in adult and pediatric sarcomas. Dr. Conrad joined the SARC Board of Directors in January, 2019, and began his term as Board  Vice Chair in January 2025.
