A core value of SARC is to foster the development of new and innovative research by supporting the ideas and career paths of individuals dedicated to sarcoma research and investigation.
Established in honor of Dr. Brian Van Tine, MD, PhD (1972-2025), these awards are designed to help defray travel and lodging costs for trainees and early-career investigators participating in domestic and international sarcoma meetings.
Generally acknowledged as among SARC’s “crown jewels,” the Career Development Program represents an essential and critical investment in scientific talent to advance research, an especially acute need for an uncommon cancer with limited career paths.
The Catalyst Award provided recipients with financial support for small-scale sarcoma research projects as well as monthly expert coaching sessions. Keila E. Torres, MD, PhD, MBA, FACS, was founder and leader of the program, co-led by SARC’s Chief Scientific Officer, Jonathan Fletcher, MD.
