Dr. Shern is currently a third year clinical fellow in Pediatric Oncology in the joint program of Johns Hopkins and the National Cancer Institute. Since 2011, he has worked in the laboratory of Dr. Javed Khan in the Oncogenomics section of the Pediatric Oncology Branch, NCI. His work has been to produce, analyze and manage a next-generation sequencing project of 147 pediatric rhabdomyosarcomas using whole-genome, whole-exome and RNA-sequencing. This project has identified candidate genes and pathways crucial to this disease. As the next phase of his career, he would like to begin to translate these findings into the development of rational therapies that improve survival and decrease toxicity for patients.
