SARC (Sarcoma Alliance for Research Through Collaboration) is pleased to announce Dr. Robbie Majzner as the 2017 SPORE Career Development Award recipient. At the 2017 SARC Semi-Annual Meeting, Dr. Elizabeth Lawlor announced the recipient of the award.
Dr. Majzner is currently an instructor in pediatric oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is a graduate of Harvard Medical School, and he completed his pediatric residency at Columbia University – Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital and fellowship in pediatric hematology – oncology at the joint program of Johns Hopkins University and the National Cancer Institute.
Since 2014, he has been working in the laboratory of Dr. Crystal Mackall, first at the NCI and now at Stanford. Dr. Majzner’s research interests lie in the optimization of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapies for sarcomas and other solid tumors. His work has illustrated the strong potential of this novel class of therapeutics to treat pediatric sarcomas. He aims to further identify and overcome mechanisms of CAR resistance in solid tumors and to translate this work to a clinical trial.
