Dr. Brian Van Tine

The SARC community is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Brian A. Van Tine, a beloved colleague, visionary physician-scientist, and tireless advocate and “truth teller” for those affected by sarcoma. His loss leaves an immeasurable void in our field, but his legacy continues to shape and inspire our work.

Dr. Van Tine was internationally recognized not only for his expertise in sarcoma research and clinical care, but also his relentless channeling of his passion, curiosity, and creativity to challenge the status quo whether as a 2012 SARC Career Development Award recipient (which he often credited as having enabled him to remain in the sarcoma field) or a as a key SARC collaborator and leader up through his tragic and unexpected passing in early November 2025.

As an investigator, mentor, and trusted partner, Dr. Van Tine played a pivotal role in advancing SARC-supported studies and strengthening the cooperative research model that sits at the core of our mission. His work consistently pushed the field forward, always with patients at the center of his efforts. Beyond his scientific achievements, Dr. Van Tine was known for his warmth, humor, and deep commitment to mentorship.
