About the Organization

The Sarcoma Alliance for Research through Collaboration (SARC) is a nonprofit clinical research consortium dedicated to improving outcomes for people affected by sarcoma. SARC’s mission is to advance the prevention, treatment, and cure of sarcoma by fostering and conducting collaborative, high-quality clinical and translational research.  Through partnerships among leading sarcoma investigators, cancer centers, industry sponsors, foundations, and patient advocates, SARC develops and conducts innovative clinical trials and research initiatives that accelerate the discovery of more effective therapies for patients worldwide.

SARC is seeking a passionate and mission-driven Treasurer to join our Board of Directors.

Position Summary

The Treasurer serves as an officer of the Board of Directors and provides financial oversight, guidance, and leadership to ensure the organization’s fiscal health, transparency, and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring experience in nonprofit financial management and a strong appreciation for the challenges and opportunities associated with cancer research organizations. The Treasurer will play an active role in supporting fundraising efforts and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the organization’s research mission.

In addition to serving as Treasurer, this individual will chair SARC’s Finance Committee, providing leadership in financial planning, oversight, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight and Governance

  • Serve as Treasurer and an officer of the Board of Directors.
  • Chair the Finance Committee and work with committee members and staff to oversee the organization’s financial health and sustainability.
  • Provide oversight of the organization’s financial operations, policies, and long-term fiscal strategy.
  • Review and present financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and investment reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Monitor organizational financial performance and recommend strategies to strengthen financial stability.
  • Assist in the review of annual operating budgets and multi-year financial plans.
  • Lead quarterly Finance Committee meetings and report committee activities and recommendations to the Board.

Fundraising and Development

  • Partner with Board leadership and staff to support fundraising strategies and revenue growth.
  • Assist in identifying, cultivating, and stewarding major donors, corporate partners, and philanthropic supporters.
  • Leverage personal and professional networks to advance fundraising opportunities and organizational visibility.
  • Advocate for financial support of sarcoma research and help communicate the impact of SARC’s research programs and clinical trials.
  • Support efforts to secure funding from foundations, corporations, and other philanthropic sources.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience in financial management, accounting, auditing, banking, investment management, or a related field.
  • Understanding of nonprofit financial practices, budgeting, and governance.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate financial information to both financial and non-financial audiences.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
  • Ability to attend regular Board meetings and participate actively in finance committee work.

Preferred

  • Prior experience serving on a nonprofit board or finance committee.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting standards, IRS regulations, and charitable organization reporting requirements.
  • Experience with grant-funded organizations or research-focused nonprofits.
  • Knowledge of clinical research, academic medicine, cancer research, or healthcare-related organizations.

Time Commitment

  • Attend quarterly Board of Directors meetings (four meetings per year), each approximately two hours in length.
  • Chair quarterly Finance Committee meetings (four meetings per year), each approximately one hour in length.
  • Review financial reports and materials in advance of Board and Finance Committee meetings.
  • Participate periodically in fundraising, donor cultivation, strategic planning discussions, and other Board activities as needed.
  • Estimated annual commitment: approximately 15-20 hours per year.

This is a volunteer Board officer position.
