We are researchers and investigators at sarcoma centers working together with pharmaceutical and biotech companies to achieve breakthroughs in sarcoma – to help improve patient outcomes, and ultimately find a cure.
The SARC organization is set up as a directorship, and the organization’s overall strategy and policy is guided by members of the board. Our scientific platform is established by leaders who are recognized experts in sarcoma research. Within this organizational structure we are positioned to bring together the range of expertise needed to move the science of sarcoma forward to develop new and better treatments for patients with sarcoma.

The Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) serves as the executive, multidisciplinary, scientific and clinical team guiding SARC’s research priorities and course. The SSC advises on the gamut of SARC programs. Further, the SSC evaluates external proposals for new clinical trials and post-hoc proposals for use of biomaterials, imaging studies, and/or clinical data from previous trials. In addition, the SSC collaborates with the SARC Discovery/Translation Committee in creating agendas for SARC conferences

The Discovery/Translation Committee’s mandate is to expand SARC’s commitment to mechanistic and translational sarcoma science. One of the Committee’s goals is to integrate cutting edge biomarkers and discovery science in SARC clinical trials, seeking to understand why new therapies help some people and not others. Another commitment is organizing sarcoma science working groups and conferences for sarcoma investigators in basic or translational research fields. These efforts complement and intersect with SARC’s core commitment to clinical investigation in sarcoma.

The SARC Research Advocacy Council (RAC) was created using the model established by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for engagement of patient advocates to become “research advocates” across four key functions: advise, design, review, and disseminate. A number of individual patient advocates have agreed to serve as research advocates on the SARC Research Advocacy Council. The council convenes regularly to explore opportunities to interface with researchers. More about RAC
